Nehemiah Episode 6 | Turning Your Eyes Inward

June 8, 2020

The wall was finished in fifty-two days.

That is the part people remember. It is also the easier part.

Once the wall was up, Ezra stood and read the Law aloud to the people, and they wept. The outside was finished. The inside was not.

Then look at how the book ends. Nehemiah leaves, comes back, and finds them already sliding — the Sabbath ignored, the storerooms misused, the promises quietly dropped.

Fifty-two days to rebuild the stone. Longer than a lifetime for the other thing.

If God has rebuilt something visible in your life, thank Him for it. Then ask what He is after underneath it.

That work does not finish in fifty-two days.

Jesus said, "For those who have ears to hear, let them hear."
